The groundbreaking postmodern choreographer Trisha Brown will give the New York premieres of her final two worksLes Yeux et l’âme and I’m going to toss my arms—if you catch them they’re yours — this week at BAM alongside three other pieces spanning her four-decade career. One highlight, to be performed by Brown’s company only on January 31, is 1983′s celebrated Set and Reset, designed by Robert Rauschenberg and scored by Laurie Anderson. As a relative newcomer, I’ve seen only two works by Brown (a duet at the 2011 Fall for Dance festival and the epic Astral Converted at the Park Avenue Armory last year). In both, I found her straightforward approach to movement bold, refreshing, and utterly mesmerizing.
