Martha Graham Dance Company returns to the Joyce Theater next week with three programs — a mixture of mythological works old and new — collectively titled “Myth and Transformation.” On the first program is Richard Move’s The Show (Achilles Heels), a contemporary retelling of the Achilles myth that, at its 2002 premiere with White Oak Dance Project, starred Mikhail Baryshnikov as the Greek hero. I spoke with Move — best known for his performances as Graham in the Martha@… series — for The Brooklyn Rail about restaging the piece, “the datedness of postmodernism,” and the timeless themes in Graham’s Greek ballets. “I think the company should do a week-long Wagnerian cycle: one Greek tragedy after another,” Move told me. “Most people would be taken out on stretchers, but I would be in heaven.” Click here to read the full interview.
